Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Can Mpower You provide Support workers and Support Coordination for me?

A: Technically the answer is yes however, usually this would be regarded as a conflict of interest. Although we are registered to provide both services, we would suggest careful consideration if you request more than one support service from us. We are happy to help you find an alternate service provider if you choose to look elsewhere. However, if you still want to go ahead with multiple services from us, we will talk about how we will manage this potential conflict of interest.

Q: What time can I have supports?

A: You let us know what you require. We will work as flexibly as possible to get supports in place at a time that suits you. Remember though, that if there is a particular support worker you want, they may not be available at the time you request. We will try our best to make sure you get the support you want at the time you want.

Q: How do I choose a support worker?

A: Choosing a support worker can be a scary or stressful process. Meeting someone new and letting them into your personal life is a big decision so we want to help you get it right. Someone from Mpower You will discuss what you are looking for in a support worker. Some things you might like to think about when choosing your worker: Would you prefer younger, older, sporty, good cook, similar likes and dislikes, chatty, quiet, mechanical ability, good listener or whatever else you are looking for. Let us know and we can try to match you with one of our amazing support workers.

Q: What does a support Coordinator do?

A: A Support Coordinator will assist you to understand your plan. They will also help to implement the plan and link you into your local community. They might also see what other services you might be able to connect with such as government departments or other mainstream services. Support Coordinators will help you to understand you budgets and build your capacity to exercise choice and control.

Q: Do I need to share my NDIS plan?

No, you do not need to share your plan with any provider. Providers will need to know that there are enough funds to pay for the supports you are requesting and will help you to work out the costs of your supports. You can then check you plan to ensure it fits the budget. Providers will need to know your plan start and end dates as well as your date of birth and your NDIS number so they can make a service booking for your supports. Plan managers and Support Coordinators will need to know more about you plan and will often request to see or have a copy of your plan. Of course, you can share your plan if you want and providers will keep your information safe.

Q: Is there a minimum time for a support shift at Mpower You?

A: Yes. We have a 3-hour minimum shift. There may be times that we can negotiate this with you so just ask if you are requiring something different.

Q: What if I already have a support worker I like, can I bring them with me to Mpower You?

A: This could be an option. Mpower You would consider this but they would have to still meet all of our checks and be a good fit for our team. We will do our best to make this happen for you should you request this option.
